The city, the spiritual home of green juice, is a healthy traveller's dream, with Kale is available on every menu. So if you’re looking for some holiday inspiration, consider a trip to SoCal, it has a bit of everything! We hope that one day London can get to that point, but in the meantime we’ve pulled together a list of some of LA’s best offerings from the health and wellbeing side. There's so much to tell you about we've had to split this into two posts - the first focusing on where to eat + juice and the second on what to do!

LA and its various neighbourhoods are spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful nourishing food. No matter what your preference, there are an astonishing array of options for everyone. Many of the places listed below also offer great “to go” options so you can stock up on goodies for a day of exploring the beautiful coast and scenery nearby. Below is just a snapshot of some of the great options available, there are many, many more!
Café Gratidude, various locations
All vegan and all organic mainstay of the LA healthy eating scene. They source their ingredients from their very own Love Farm. The menu is seasonal with all options freshly made on-site from fresh fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts and whole grains.
Seed Kitchen, Venice
Fresh vegan and macrobiotic cuisine free of refined sugars and animal products, using locally-sourced organic produce and eco-friendly packaging where possible.
Planet Raw, West Hollywood
All organic raw food eatery run by Chef Juliano Brotman. Their menu uses only fruits, vegetables, roots, leaves, nuts, seeds and related byproducts such as oils. They also have a store selling supplements, superfoods, fruits, refreshments, and biodynamic vegan wines.
Crossroads, Melrose Ave., LA
This cruelty-free vegan fine dining restaurant run by famed chef Tal Ronnen, offers diners Mediterranean-themed small dishes, salads, farm-to-glass cocktails, and desserts. Their innovative and refined plant-based cuisine is favoured by numerous celebs including Jay-Z + Beyonce. The perfect place to splash out.
M Café, various locations
This LA wide chain describes itself as "contemporary Macrobiotic cuisine". In the style of Michio Kushi, all items are freshly prepared daily and free from refined sugars, eggs, dairy, red meat or poultry in a European cafe style setting.
M.A.K.E., Santa Monica
Run by raw food chef and author, Matthew Kenney, M.A.K.E. describes itself as "a living foods restaurant, featuring cutting edge plant-based cuisine". The menu features a mix of Matthew’s classic raw food dishes alongside other seasonal dishes using local produce.
Real Food Daily, various locations
Founded by green food pioneer Ann Gentry back in 1993, Real Food Daily has grown into SoCal's premier organic plant-based chain. The nutritionally balanced menu is made up of sustainable certified organic vegetables, fruits, whole grains and high quality natural condiments. All options are free of meat, dairy, eggs, butter, cholesterol, saturated fats, preservatives, pesticides, artificial sweeteners, food dyes, trans-fats, soy-isolates and GMOs.
SunCafe Organic Cuisine, Studio City, LA
The award-winning SunCafe serves up organic, raw and vegan cuisine and gluten free desserts. They claim to make "almost everything from scratch" in-house, including all their "meats"/burgers, sauces, mayo, and seed/nut cheeses. Their most popular dishes include kale shake, raw nachos, raw supreme pizza, lasagna, and cookie dough pie.
The spiritual home of green juice, juice obsessives will be in heaven with your nearest fix only ever a few minutes away. Below are a selection of our favourite boutique juiceries that offer amazing greens, but also tons of other innovative combinations and indulgent nut 'mylks'.
Kreation Juice, various locations
Offering an amazing array of innovative cold-pressed juices, nut mylks and other liquid tonics as well as cleanses for the more hard core, Kreation is a juice lovers paradise. Their Venice outpost also houses the delicious Kreation kafe which serves a wide range of delicuous and nourishing grub.
Our pick: the hardcore 50 Shades of Green - enough said!
Clover Juice, various locations
One of the newer kids on the LA juicing scene Clover describes itself as "LA's first perfectly pure cold-pressed juice bar and eatery". Their daily options include raw cold-pressed juices, made-to-order smoothies, wellness shots, kombucha on tap, Stumptown coffee, sandwiches and salads, as well as vegan and gluten free baked goods.
Our pick: The Pink Chia feat. Chia, Prickly Pear Cactus, Lemon, Mint and Coconut Nectar.
Pressed Juicery, various locations
Although they primarily focus on juice cleanses and subsctiptions, you can also stop by one of their LA outlets to pick up a "sampler" set of 6 juices. Pressed is a celebrity favourite so you're in good company!
Our pick: Coconut Cinnamon - a perfect marriage of our two favourite things!
Moon Juice, Venice + Silverlake
Moon juice, another celebrity favourite offers cold pressed, 100% organic, juice and nut milk. They don't heat, oxidize or pastuerize the produce for their hydraulically pressed juices resulting in nutritionally packed, live juice loaded with enzymes, vitamins, trace minerals, and other vital goodies. They claim one bottle of Moon Juice contains over 3 pounds of raw, 100% organic produce.
Our pick: Golden Milk feat. Almond Milk, Turmeric juice, Cinnamon, Cardamon, and raw Wildflower Honey.
GlowBIO, Melrose Ave., LA
Juice, smoothie and cleanse bar run by celebrity nutritionist and author Kimberly Synder. The store offers a range of bio-available smoothies, cold-pressed juices and cleanses. They also offer the option of probiotic-enhanced juices to balance your gut flora.
Our pick: Kimberly's signature Glowing Green Smoothie packed full of seasonal greens, Apple, Pear, Banana and Lemon.
Beverly Hills Juice, Beverly Blvd., LA
The original LA juice bar Beverly Hills Juice has been selling pressed juices since 1975 and uses strives to use organic, pesticide- and fertilizer-free produce for its cold-pressed juices and signature Banana Mama shakes.
Our pick: the signature Banana Manna shake which blends their vegan alternative ice cream with the juice of your choice - indulge - you're on holiday after all!
