This week’s recipe round-up is focused on sweet treats with a healthy twist.

We're all about a healthy 80% : 20% approach to health here at The Holist, and we love that committing to a healthy whole-foods lifestyle doesn't have to mean deprivation. That said, you should note that while sweet treats like those below are infinitely better for you than processed junk, 'natural' sugars are still sugars and should only be enjoyed in moderation! Just because a recipe calls for dates instead of caster sugar it doesn't mean you can eat as much as you want! Provided your diet is generally low in sugar (ideally max. 5tsp a day!) then go ahead and indulge in these delicious treats every now and then without any guilt or remorse!

Cinnamon rich oatmeal and raisin cookies are one of our favourite things here at The Holist and we’ve long been on the hunt for a healthy alternative so are definitely intrigued by these delicious bars. Personally we’d sub the chocolate chips for raisins but you can play around as you see fit!

4. FOOD 52’s TURKISH DELIGHT

Ok, so this one isn’t really ‘healthy’ in any official sense, but Turkish Delight is one of our all time favourite indulgences and as you’ll know by now we preach an 80/20 approach to life so we felt it would be rude not to pass this beauty from Real Simple Food on! This is the perfect example of a once in a while treat for a special occasion and by making it yourself you know exactly what is in it and that it’s free of nasties!
